First Canadian with Diabetes to Climb Everest

On May 25, 2008, Sebastien Sasseville became the first Canadian living with Type 1 diabetes to summit Mount Everest.

After reaching the summit of Mt Everest in 2008, Sebastien Sasseville turned to a new challenge: Ironman races. These races are considered to be among the toughest sporting events in the world. Competitors have to complete a 2.4 mile swim, 112 miles on the bike and then run a full marathon, back to back to back.

As a motivational speaker or in everyday life, Sebastien shares the same message and shows that anything is possible, regardless of obstacles. Loud and clear, he demonstrates that no challenge is too big to be overcome when attacked with patience, resilience and consistency.
To date, Sebastien has completed 2 Ironman races: Ironman Arizona in 2009 and Ironman Canada in 2010. Sebastien’s ultimate goal is to earn a spot in Ironman world Championships in Kona, Hawaii to compete alongside the world’s best.
